About Maxim Ostromogilsky

Photography came to me at an early age—my father was a photographer. I remember looking at some of his photos and being impressed by his ability to anticipate and recognize key moments, and then capture those moments on film. I also remember as a kid, looking at family photos of my parents and grandparent as they were telling me stories in those pictures. This had an impact on me; I realized the ability of photography to freeze time and capture the moment of our lives.

When I was nine or ten, my dad gave me an old film camera and a couple of rolls of film, and I first experienced capturing my own moments. In my early twenties, I wanted to get back to capturing moments of my life, so that one day I would be able to share those moments with my kids the way my parents and grandparents shared them with me. It was the 90’s and the Kodak disposable cameras were the tool for me to capture those moments. In the early 2000’s I bought my first digital point-n-shoot camera and my journey of capturing moments continued.

As many photos as I was taking, other than knowing how to turn on the camera, pointing and pulling the trigger, I did not learn nor wanted to learn anything about photography. It was not until 2013, after a few years of my wife wanting to get a “nice” camera, did we finally buy a DSLR for my wife. But after we bought the camera and it sitting on a kitchen counter completely unused for days since being purchased, did I tell myself that someone needs to use it. This is when my photography journey truly began. For the last few years I have focused on going beyond taking snapshots, but to learn the craft of photography and make pictures. I have not looked back since.

Today, I believe that anyone can make the most awesome photos they can imagine! All they have to do is learn a few easy basics. I hope to inspire you to also pick up a camera and develop your own photographic vision.
